Mobiado, the Canadian luxury cell phones manufacturer (for those who don’t already know), has just announced a brand new handset that is expected to “destroy†like the BELLPERRE handsets I was writing about a couple of days ago. Part of the professional line, 105 GMT Discovery was described with pretentious words as “the expression of mechanical perfection, mastering of aesthetic details and the integrity of consistent craftsmanshipâ€.
Being the first Mechanical Watch Mobile Phone, the collection is meant to surpass time and fashion barriers and represents a fine mixture of the tradition of watch-making and ground-breaking technologies applied in the world of mobile phones. Entirely made from sapphire crystal (the front and the back of the cell phone), it incorporates a Discovery mechanism in the lower half of the case which makes it possible for the user to set two international time zones, while the electronic phone enables the local time. This means that Mobiado 105 GMT gives you the possibility to view 3 time zones at the same time.
The Swiss mechanical watch movement consists of no more, no less than 25 jeweled bearings. It “performs 28,800 vibrations per hour, has 28 hours of power reserve and is a self-winding automatic mechanism with ball-bearingâ€. The movements, on the other hand, are fixed to a 3D shock absorbing system (which is in the patent pending phase), for protection. Made from brass (with the help of computer numerical control machines – aka CNC), the case of the Discovery mechanism is plated with 24-Carat gold.
Everything is precious about the latest cell phones coming from Mobiado. The keypad is made of sapphire crystal and has the buttons hand painted with 24-Carat gold paint, while the sliding battery cover is made entirely from one single piece of sapphire crystal. An optional feature consists of diamond watch hour and an “Mâ€, made of diamond also, placed somewhere between the two mechanisms. The “M†illuminated when the keypad lights up.
When it comes to the technical features, they include: quadband GSM/EGSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and dual band WCDMA (850/2100 MHz), a 2-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 320x240 pixels (supports up to 16.7 million true colors), an integrated 2 megapixel digital camera (the resolution of images is 1600x1200 pixels while the resolution of video QCIF/SQCIF is 176x144 pixels), Series 40 5th edition, music player (supports AAC, eAAC+ and MP3 formats), video player (supports H.263, MPEG4 and 3GPP formats and codecs), Bluetooth 1.2, microUSB, an internal memory of 1GB.

Weighing 241.1 grams and measuring 128x47.5x10.6 millimeters, the Mobiado Discovery provides up to 3.5 hours of talk time and up to 9 days of stand-by time. As for the price and availability, there is no information yet. However, the company announced that there will be released a limited 50-pieces edition.
