Nokia’s Vertu division unveils a new Ferrari-branded, limited edition phone embodied in titanium, leather and the works

Ever heard of a luxury cell phone maker called ‘Vertu’? Though it may sound like the cheap, Chinese, dual-sim compatible, touchscreen device sold at the shady cell phone stores, it is in fact a luxury phone made by an upmarket division of Nokia exclusively for the rich and famous. While the Finnish phone maker has been busy with signing deals with Microsoft, their Vertu division has spent time designing yet another luxury phone that is engraved with the Prancing Horse logo. Christened as the ‘Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Edition’, this new device builds further on Vertu’s Ascent line of luxury cell phones that was refreshed in 2010. Highlighting its Ferrari connection is the Prancing Horse logo which gets emblemised in steel on the phone’s black titanium body. The Ascent Ti Ferrari Edition also gets crackle finish grips on the side that are designed to emanate Maranello’s trademark cam covers. For added grip, the Ferrari branded Vertu also gets a fair bit of hand-stitched leather on the back and comes from the same Italian tanneries where the Ferraris get their upholstery from. While the battery cover features sharp creases similar to the bonnet design of the new generation Ferraris, the keypad and ear pillow get red accents to complete the Ferrari connection.

The phone is available in four base trims and like most Vertu devices, can be customised further to suit your taste. Being a limited edition, only 2009 examples of the Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Edition will be produced. On the hardware front, this Vertu phone comes equipped with a 3.0 megapixel camera, 4 GB user memory, 3G compatibility and quad-band network support.
